Economics and Moral Sentiments
After the Spring semester 2008, compelled by the interactions between incentives and preferences, I sought out a group of people that wanted to read Adam Smith’s The Theory of Moral Sentiments and called the readings group "Economics and Moral Sentiments". We finished The Theory of Moral Sentiments at the end of Florida State’s Summer term and have moved on to other books or popular pieces since then. Here are some links to the most recent papers we’ve read.
Schurter, Karl and Bart J. Wilson. "Justice and Fairness in the Dictator Game " Southern Economic Journal. 76: 130-145 (July 2009)
Arrow et al. "Are We Consuming Too Much ?" Journal of Economic Perspectives. 18:147-172 (2004)
I will continue to post the papers we’re reading through. Additionally, we will be reading Paul Zak’s book Moral Markets this upcoming Summer of 2010.
